Karibu sana!

To my blog and just in case there is some confusion, "karibu sana" means very welcome in Kswahili.

Unsure about how to begin this so I will go for the basic introduction. So as my about me shows, I am a Dartmouth student who is currently interning at the Dartmouth Pediatric Program, a clinic that has been developed by Dartmouth in partnership with Muhimbilli Hospital, in Dar es Salaam.

The clinic focuses on providing free treatment to children who are HIV+ and their parents. It is as cool as it sounds, and is filled with some truly wonderful doctors and nurses who are truly dedicated to their patients. Dartmouth (because it is awesome) sends two interns every summer and every winter to work in the clinic, as well as at the Bibi Jaan school (not directly connected to Dartmouth, but it has evolved into a project as well) and interns are welcome to work and volunteer there.

So, this summer the two interns are me, Zain Aslam and Carla Castillo and I have been here for three weeks now and Carla has been here for two weeks. I have been a bit lazy in setting up my blog so far but it is not exactly only my fault. The first week I was confused about everything and so not really sure how the internet worked. Then when I finally figured that out, an undersea cable that provided a major backbone for the internet in East Africa was busted due to some submarine. After that got fixed, my computer charger decided to permanently retire and left me computer-less and unable to get started on the blog. So, now with all these problems taken care of, I can finally start off with the blog.

So, this was for the introduction. hopefullyI will be regular with the updates so more posts will follow.

Asante for reading.
